Education and Early Career
Marjorie Scardino, the former CEO of British media giant Pearson, graduated from George Washington University's law school and began her journalism career in 1970 at the Associated Press office in Charleston.
Working initially as a transcriber, Scardino quickly rose to the role of literary editor. During her tenure, she encountered a young reporter named Albert Scardino and famously critiqued his work with the dismissive line, "Who told you you could write?" Despite this initial criticism, the pair would later marry.
